Fingerboard Explorer — Fiddle

Tap any note to light it up across the GDAE fingerboard.

An interactive map of this reader's fingerboard in GDAE: tap a note and it lights everywhere it occurs, so the 4 strings stop being 4 separate strings to memorise.

A number chart is unreadable at session speed until this map is automatic, because the chart names a degree and expects a position back inside one beat. Nobody gets that from a chord book; it comes from knowing where one pitch lives in three places.

A fiddler reads a number as a set of notes to be inside rather than a chord to land on — the one reader on the floor who plays a line across the chart instead of a grip underneath it. One note at a time means the number is never played whole — it is outlined, and which of its tones gets outlined first is a decision made in the bar, not on the page.
