Fretboard Explorer — Guitar
Tap any note to light it up across the EADGBE fretboard.
An interactive map of this reader's fretboard in EADGBE: tap a note and it lights everywhere it occurs, so the 6 strings stop being 6 separate strings to memorise.
A number chart is unreadable at session speed until this map is automatic, because the chart names a degree and expects a position back inside one beat. Nobody gets that from a chord book; it comes from knowing where one pitch lives in three places.
A guitarist reads a shape per number — the one hand position that has to be found before the bar arrives, which is why a guitarist reads a chart one bar ahead of everybody else. The chart hands over a degree and nothing else, so the hand has to arrive at a whole shape from a single digit, and it has to have arrived before the bar does.
