Neck Explorer — Resonator

Tap any note to light it up across the GBDGBD neck.

An interactive map of this reader's neck in GBDGBD: tap a note and it lights everywhere it occurs, so the 6 strings stop being 6 separate strings to memorise.

A number chart is unreadable at session speed until this map is automatic, because the chart names a degree and expects a position back inside one beat. Nobody gets that from a chord book; it comes from knowing where one pitch lives in three places.

A resonator player reads a number as a place to stop the bar — the strings are already a chord, so what the digit changes is not the grip but where along the neck the bar has to be sitting when the bar of music starts. The open strings already spell a chord, so a number is answered with a position rather than a grip, and the whole reading job is arriving at the right one square on the beat.
