Fretboard Explorer — Bass

Tap any note to light it up across the EADG fretboard.

An interactive map of this reader's fretboard in EADG: tap a note and it lights everywhere it occurs, so the 4 strings stop being 4 separate strings to memorise.

A number chart is unreadable at session speed until this map is automatic, because the chart names a degree and expects a position back inside one beat. Nobody gets that from a chord book; it comes from knowing where one pitch lives in three places.

A bass player reads a root per number, and the slash marks that override it — the only player on the floor for whom a 1/3 is an instruction rather than a colour. Most of what is written above the number never reaches down here; what does reach is the root, and whatever a slash mark says to put underneath it instead.
